KUALA LUMPUR: The court complex at Jalan Duta here sprung a leak in several spots after a one-hour downpour lashed the city this afternoon.

Flashfloods also hit the parking area of the three-year-old complex.

The worst affected was High Court 2 located at the fifth floor of the building, where water rushed in through one of the main beams, damaging furniture in a witness room.

A court staff, who declined to be named, said this was not the first time water had seeped into the building.

"It happens whenever there is a downpour.”

"We are worried that the water might damage the file room located at the basement of the building," she added.

Hairline cracks have also appeared on several parts of the building.

The staff said despite several complaints lodged with the company responsible for the maintenance of the building, the answer was not encouraging.

“The company merely told us that the main structure did not suffer any serious damage. We are worried that if repairs are not done now, we could end up with a more serious problem later,” she said.

Meanwhile, several cars of senior court officials and judges were removed to higher ground after water overflowed into the parking area from nearby drains.
