By G VinodPETALING JAYA: Controversial cartoonist Zulkiflee SM Anwar Ulhaq, or better known as Zunar, would launch a new book called Cartoon-O-Phobia. Not discouraged by the Home Ministry's decision to ban his previous books, Zunar said his latest offering would be launched at the Kuala Lumpur-Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall on Friday.
“The Home Ministry said the earlier books were banned because its contents were detrimental to public order and could influence the people to revolt against the leaders and government.
“Hence Cartoon-O-Phobia was chosen as the title for the new book to illustrate and reflect on the fears of certain party to cartoons,” he added in a statement.
The book, which is the third under Kinibooks, would be launched by former Perak menteri besar Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin.
A 'sharper' book
Zunar said his new book would be "sharper" than his previous works, covering issues such as the Altantuya murder, conspiracy against Anwar, the prime minister's
wife, the loss of jet engines, the Scorpene submarine that cannot dive, Sarawak, racism, corruption, waste of public funds and others.“Will my latest book get banned by the government as well? This has never crossed my mind when I was working on it and I strongly believe Cartoon-O-Phobia has its own strength and will meet the readers' needs," he added.
He said Cartoon-O-Phobia would feature a collection of his cartoons, which appeared in the Malaysiakini news portal from December 2009 to September 2010.
He added that the idea to come up with the latest book was triggered after the government decided to ban his previous books, “1 Funny Malaysia", "Perak Darul Kartun" and "Isu Dalam Kartun" on June 24.
The book launch is expected to start at 8pm and would retail at RM25. It could also be purchased online at www.cartoonkafe.com.
