KOTA KINABALU: Step down immediately, Inspector-General of Police Musa Hassan was urged today by Sabah Progressive Party president Yong Teck Lee, who said Musa was no longer qualified to be the nation’s top police officer.
Yong was commenting on Musa’s threat to take police off the streets and not enforce the law in the wake of Monday's fatal shooting of 14-year-old teenager, Aminulrasyid Amzah.
Yong, a former Sabah chief minister, said the remark was totally irresponsible.
“This is the kind of arrogant attitude that gives the police force a bad name. Since the IGP has threatened not to enforce the law, he has forfeited public confidence in the entire police force.
"He must resign with immediate effect. If he remains in office for another day, it will cause unnecessary fear among the people. He has hurt the feelings of the people and damaged the reputation of the police force,” Yong said in a statement.
He added that Musa’s conduct was unfair to other policemen who are hardworking and risk their lives in the discharge of their duties.
