NEW This was FMT’s first full year of operation. And what a year it has been for news, especially in politics. It is true that 2008 was the year that political reporting in Malaysia had its Woodstock, but 2010 was no less exciting for the reporter, the politician and the observer. Some might even argue that it was an even more sensational year. The ecstatic reception of the opposition gains of 2008 waned a little, and more and more Malaysians raised their doubts about Pakatan Rakyat’s ability to lead, especially during the tumultuous PKR elections that took place in the later part of the year. Perhaps PKR was trying to do too much too soon with its one-member-one-vote election. Perhaps Malaysians had become wiser and more critical.Barisan Nasional, on its part, had finished licking its wounds and was bouncing back aggressively. Not only did it use the established media under its control to the hilt; it also finally got wise to the power of the Internet and unleashed a large army of bloggers to help it fight its cause.
