KUCHING: Sarawak DAP is unlikely to topple Barisan Nasional but it plans to deny the ruling coalition a two-third majority in the state, said the party's state secretary Chong Chieng Jen.

“We have a slim chance of taking over the state government but to deny BN a two-third majority is our target. If Sarawak can achieve this in the state elections then it will chart the course for the general election,” he added.

Also present at the press conference was Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi who said that DAP would fight the state elections with facts and figures of how Pakatan Rakyat runs states, which combined held more than 40% of the national GDP and had fair policies put in place for the people.

Ooi and PJ Utara MP Tony Pua were in Sarawak recently to formulate election strategies which involved analysis and training for their colleagues in Kuching, Miri and Sibu.

The Jelutong MP said the Sibu by-election had helped them identify the strengths and weaknesses of their strategies and how this could be overcome.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Update quoted Pua as saying that unlike previous campaigns, this time round there was an element of specialised preparation.

He said the teams would be split into three zones, North, Central and South. Each group would be headed by a representative from their headquarters.

“We are looking into strategies to convince people that DAP is the better choice.

“We are looking to replicate the model and strength across Sarawak to blow the winds of change from Sibu to the rest of the state,” he added.
